Frozen fingers churning out pop chords on the cobblestones of Europe. Gathering my tips for a cup of hot espresso and some wi-fi. Hauling gear back and forth on the train, searching around in the cold for the best place to set up. Long strides and short breaths, pushing through the last ten kilometers after… Continue reading Mom stuff.
Good Morning
It’s 6:48 a.m. and I’m up with not one but both of my wonderful early-rising children. Sprout opened the fridge and found M&Ms, which I then let her put in her chocolate dinosaur cereal. I know this is a mistake, but I keep conceding to these types of requests because it isn’t a “normal” morning/day/week,… Continue reading Good Morning
First day of a new semester
Stepping back into my own classroom today after a long summer away. I always enjoy the opportunity to teach. This year, new curriculum, new class, and 7.5 months pregnant. I won’t get long with these students before I have to step away, but I’m hoping the weeks we do get will transform all of us.
We made it!
10 days ago we woke up to our last full day in West Virginia. The sunrise was perfect. The frosty air fogged up the windows. We bustled around on last minute errands and packed our Jeep to the gills. Then we were off! Six days of driving, seeing friends and family, and packing and repacking… Continue reading We made it!

A space on the dresser had to be cleared for it, as every flat surface is covered in stuff while we prepare for our impending departure. Candle one (hope) was lit two days late. Candle two (peace) will also be lit here in West Virginia. Candle… Continue reading Like watchmen for the morning
Shepherd
This might be my favorite piece of the collection, because it’s the one that took the greatest journey from concept to finished product. I love the imagery of a shepherd protecting his sheep. As I thought about this design, I envision the figure of the shepherd wrapped around the sheep, guarding it from whatever might… Continue reading Shepherd
Did I mention that it’s fall, y’all?
And I love it. I actually love every season in it’s time, but I’m particularly enjoying the cooling temperatures. And autumn is just lovely in West Virginia. Additionally we moved out of town into more nature right in time for fall, so it feels extra nice. Disclaimer: this photo was not posed in any way.… Continue reading Did I mention that it’s fall, y’all?
Mountains + Sea
The city where we live in Azerbaijan is perched on a peninsula, overlooking the sea. Just slightly to the North, the Caucus Mountains stretch down, skimming the horizon in the distance. This beautiful vista is the inspiration for Mountains + Sea, the inaugural piece of the Make Joy | Wearable Art collection. Here Mountains +… Continue reading Mountains + Sea
Introducing: Wearable Art
I love making stuff, and this week I made something to share with all of you: Make Joy | Wearable Art! This is a three-piece collection. All three designs are hand-drawn by yours truly. There has never been another piece of clothing produced like these, and they are only available for the next two weeks.… Continue reading Introducing: Wearable Art
