Last year
You came for me
–
Last year
We watched heroes ski down mountains far away
–
Last year
We found adventure at the end of a cold road
–
Last year
We cuddled on the couch and took trips around the world
I ran my hands through your hair
–
Last year
You handed me a piece of dog-eared pink paper
My name scribbled in a corner next to Darth Vader
–
Last year
You bought her flowers
You laid everything out
And I didn’t say a word
–
Last year
We waited
–
Last year
You cried and cried
I sat with you in the dark
Afraid
Wishing I could help you
–
Last year
I slept in your house
I was alone
It was all right
–
Last year
You trusted me
And I told you I loved you
–
Last year
Feels far away
But when I close my eyes
I can see your face
And I know we’ll always have
Last year

Last year on Valentine’s Day I babysat, and I babysat, and then I babysat some more. It’s funny how the pronoun “you” can leave so much mystery to circumstance. Last year I spent the day surrounded by so many different people. Moments that seem so long ago, but are still so clear in my mind.
I miss you.
