A Beautiful Brunch with Tom & Serg

My friends and I started our Dubai adventure at Tom & Serg, a coffee shop/restaurant in Al Quoz.

The title of this post may be misleading, as I have not yet hit the “I’m so cool and famous the people who own the place come eat with me” level. Regardless, we had an amazing time. As soon as you walk in you’re welcomed by the hip industrial vibe that’s biggest variation from the neighborhood outside is the temperature.

We had to wait a few minutes to be seated, but that wasn’t a surprise as we were there for brunch late on a Saturday morning. We put in our coffee orders: I ordered my first-ever flat white, figuring if one of the founders of the establishment was from Melbourne this would be a good place to try this Aussie invention.

It did not disappoint, and neither did our meals, ordered off the ever-changing menu. I had the Shakshouka baked eggs (top left in the photo below), which might have been partially motivated by how cool that sounds. Really, just sit there for a second and say “Shakshouka.” Don’t you want some now?

Between the four of us we also had a veggie sandwich, granola, and some egg fritters. All the food was delicious and fresh. The portion sizes weren’t gigantic, but especially for the first meal of the day we were all pretty full by the end. I could see why my friend chose this for our first glimpse of the Dubai food/coffee scene.

Baristas

Above the cool decor and tasty offerings I loved the pervasive friendly feeling. The staff were nice and knew what they were doing. If I lived in the neighborhood I would definitely be here as often as my budget allowed, but for now all I can do is hope some future travel brings me close again. If you get some time in Dubai, I definitely recommend you check out Tom & Serg.
