This might be my favorite piece of the collection, because it’s the one that took the greatest journey from concept to finished product.
I love the imagery of a shepherd protecting his sheep. As I thought about this design, I envision the figure of the shepherd wrapped around the sheep, guarding it from whatever might be coming. As I worked out from the centerpiece, the landscape came into view, with trees dotting the hills in the distance.

The foreground now felt out of balance, so I filled in the grass, framing the main characters of the drawing. Finally, I filled the sky with some rolling clouds, drifting across the sky as the day comes to a close.
I love that process of going from a simple idea to a completed work.
